Perelik Eco Jazz Festival “The Sound of Silence” took place on Perelik Peak, Rhodopes, Smolyan, for another year. It is usually held on the last Saturday of July, at 2191 meters high, on the second highest peak in the Rhodopes, in a completely natural environment. In 2018, the festival was held on July 28 from 20:00.
The festival is part of the national cultural calendar of Bulgaria and is becoming increasingly popular. The special way of life of the place is given by the original way of life and culture of the region and the centuries-old folklore and song tradition. The event enjoys great public interest and is supported by the Italian Cultural Institute, the US Embassy in Bulgaria and others.
The main goal of the festival is in July every year, in the heart of the Rhodopes, to provoke communication not only with nature but also between artists and audience. Jazz is the main guiding line, because improvisation is the highest form of creativity and mastery, which gives freedom and space to thoughts. The idea is to maximally merge musicians and audiences with art and the natural and unadulterated natural atmosphere in the acoustic environment of the mountain. The warmth and glare of the fires add magic to the event. The Jazz Festival calls for a more sensible and ecological existence.28
