05/04/2024

The Atlantic Club of Bulgaria organized a lecture by the US Ambassador Kenneth Merten, with the participation of the President of the National Assembly Rosen Zhelyazkov, to mark its 33rd anniversary, alongside:

  • 75th anniversary of the Alliance;
  • 20 years of Bulgaria in NATO & NATO in Bulgaria.

The forum “Bulgaria-US-NATO: Allies in Two Centuries” brought together the country’s political, diplomatic and military elite and many active young people, eager to know more about the future of Bulgaria, Europe and the world. The Ambassador received a gift – a minicopy of Solomon Passy’s famous Trabant, in which the then Secretary-General of NATO Manfred Wörner was “kidnapped” in Sofia in 1991.

The main highlights of the speech were Bulgaria’s vital contribution to regional security within NATO, the importance of collective defense against contemporary threats, and affirmation of the enduring strength of the U.S.-Bulgaria partnership in fostering security, prosperity, and future collaboration.

The Forum “Bulgaria-US-NATO: Allies in Two Centuries” was supported by Samsung Store Bulgaria, Assarel-Medet AD, Megatron, Glavbolgarstroy, Force Delta, Kontrax, Geotechmin, Dundee Precious Metals Bulgaria and Coca-Cola. H.E. Kenneth Merten’s speech can be read here.
