10/11/2025

On November 6, 2025, the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, in partnership with the Taipei Representative Office in Greece and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and with the support of Multiforce A.S., organized the international conference Strategic Resilience: Supply Chain, Security and Disinformation in the Taiwan–EU Relations

The event brought together diplomats, politicians, security experts, and analysts to discuss how Taiwan and the European Union can strengthen their cooperation in the face of growing geopolitical challenges.

Inspired by the lessons of the war in Ukraine, participants emphasized the shared democratic values and strategic interests that unite Taiwan and Europe, despite their geographical distance.

The first panel discussed the resilience of global supply chains, highlighting the importance of the security of production networks—especially in key sectors such as microchips, where Taiwan is a world leader.

Participants included:
– Vasil Karaivanov, Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sofia Tech Park;
– Brendan Jean, Analyst at the Center for the Study of Democracy, Working Group on Democracy and Geo-Economics Program;
– Dimitar Chukarski, lawyer; Chairman of the Foreign Policy, Defense, and Security Committee in the 41st National Assembly; Chairman of the only parliamentary group for friendship with the Taiwanese parliament;

The second panel was devoted to combating disinformation and strategic resilience, where Taiwanese experts shared their wealth of experience in countering digital manipulation, deepfakes, and hybrid threats, bringing together incredible experts such as:
– Ruslan Trad, security researcher, Atlantic Council’s DFRLab
– Yavor Bozhankov, member of the Bulgarian National Assembly
– Arkady Sharkov, macroeconomist with experience in the public and private sectors
– Miroslav Yanev, expert on artificial intelligence and disinformation prevention

The need for closer interregional cooperation between governments, academia, and civil society was emphasized in order to strengthen democratic resilience, security, and economic stability in Europe and Taiwan.

The event ended with a wonderful gesture. Following a generous donation by the Taipei Representative Office in Greece to the Georgi Benkovski Secondary School in the village of Benkovski, Maritsa municipality, Plovdiv region, the Taiwanese ambassador and the school principal, Mr. Babugerov, exchanged brief congratulatory addresses, which brought our event to a wonderful close!
