On February 24, 2025, the solemn anniversary of three years since the start of the full-scale Russian aggression against Ukraine was marked at the Military Club in Sofia. The event was organized by the Union of Reserve Officers “Atlantic”, the Atlantic Club of Bulgaria, the Atlantic Council of Bulgaria, and the Sofia Security Forum, with the support of the Embassy of Ukraine in Bulgaria and the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Bulgaria.
Those present at the Military Club, including Bulgaria’s Deputy Minister of Defense Radostin Iliev, representatives of the diplomatic corps, leading analysts, and media, witnessed a deep and emotional discussion about the course and consequences of the conflict. The Ambassador of Ukraine to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilashchuk, delivered a powerful and inspiring speech, which was met with a standing ovation, recalling the enormous sacrifices and heroism of the Ukrainian people in defending their freedom and territorial integrity.

Visual Evidence and Innovative Technologies
During the event, the award-winning short documentary film “Battle for Ukraine” by director Andriy Zayats was presented, which through an impactful cinematic narrative immersed viewers in the harsh conditions of the battlefield.

The photo exhibition “Erased from the Face of the Earth”, prepared by the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, displayed the horrific destruction in Ukrainian towns and villages such as Popasna, Marinka, Soledar, and Bakhmut, victims of Russian aggression. It was opened at the Military Club in Sofia, reminding attendees of the massive human and cultural losses caused by the conflict.

To provide an even deeper understanding of daily life in the war zone, the project “LIVING THE WAR” was demonstrated – an innovative 3D experience using VR glasses that allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the reality of the conflict through modern technology.
Discussions and International Analysis
Participants in the discussions included Deputy Minister Radostin Iliev, representatives of the diplomatic corps, and journalists. The Executive Director of the Ukrainian Center for Defense Strategies, Oleksandr Khara, joined the conversation via video message, sharing his analyses of the current situation and future challenges facing Ukraine and the region.

Solidarity That Turns Into Action
The event was a clear sign of Bulgaria’s and the international community’s unwavering support for the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom and peace. At a time when the world faces new and complex threats, such initiatives demonstrate that unity and cooperation are the surest foundation for ensuring security and humanitarian aid.
We thank all the organizations and partners who made this important event possible and proved that solidarity with Ukraine is not just a declaration, but a constant commitment to action and support.
