Yesterday, October 19, marked the first public event of the visit to Bulgaria by world-renowned historian, journalist, and Pulitzer Prize winner Anne Applebaum.

Organised by East-West Publishing House with the support of PanEuropa Bulgaria, the event brought together readers and admirers of the author for an insightful discussion moderated by Gergana Passy, President of PanEuropa Bulgaria.

📖 The discussion focused on Anne Applebaum’s books, including Gulag: A History, Red Famine: Stalin’s War on Ukraine, Iron Curtain: The Crushing of Eastern Europe, 1944–1956, and Autocracy, Inc. These works explore the history of totalitarianism, the mechanisms of authoritarian power, and the challenges facing modern democracies.

🌍 The conversation went beyond the pages of her books and developed into a lively exchange with the audience. Questions addressed some of the most pressing issues of our time, including the war in Ukraine, the future of Europe, the rise of autocracies, and the shifting balance of power among the world’s major powers.
