Romanian Presidency of the EU: Building upon Bulgarian experience

PanEuropa Bulgaria, the Embassy of Romania to the Republic of Bulgaria, the European Commission Representation in Sofia and Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Office in Bulgaria have the pleasure to invite you, on 16 January 2019, 11:00 h at the House of Europe (“Georgi S. Rakovski” Street 124), to the event launching the first Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

Its mandate comes at a time of outstanding European developments and potential questions related to: the transition to a new Trio and to a new legislative and institutional cycle; BREXIT and the clarification of the future relation with a strategic partner; the Sibiu Summit and the Reflection on the Future of Europe; the European elections in May 2019. Against this background, the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU proposes a realistic and ambitious approach, focusing on the concept of cohesion, in all its dimensions: economic, social and political. The motto of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council, “Cohesion, a common European value”, will be reflected in all the four pillars of its programme: Europe of convergence, Europe of safety, Europe, global actor, and Europe of common values.

The event will include a presentation of the priorities of the new Presidency of the EU Council by the Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Ion Galea, as well as an outlook on the achievements and challenges of the recent Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU” by Mrs. Lilyana Pavlova, Minister for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU (2017 – 2018).
