On July 3, 2025, an opening event marking the start of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU was held at the Central Military Club in Sofia, organized by Pan-Europa Bulgaria together with the Danish Embassy in Sofia, the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Bulgaria, and the Bulgarian Diplomatic Institute at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The forum brought together diplomats, statesmen, and experts to discuss Copenhagen’s priorities for the period until the end of 2025.

The opening was made by Gergana Passy, President of Pan-Europa Bulgaria, who emphasized the importance of the united efforts of Member States to address global challenges. “We must look to the future with optimism and determination. Europe has the power to be a global leader in innovation and sustainable development,” she said.

Ambassador Flemming Stender, Denmark’s representative in Bulgaria, presented the priority of the Presidency: “A strong Europe in a changing world.” He focused on three key areas: security, EU competitiveness, and green transition. “Denmark is taking a leading role at a crucial time for the future of Europe. We must act to ensure the security of the EU and strengthen its competitiveness,” Stender added, emphasizing the need for the active involvement of young people in decision-making.

Minister Georgi Georgiev, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, drew attention to the role of innovation and technology: “In the midst of general uncertainty, it is important that we find the way forward together, united in a common goal—peace. Peace will no longer be a given; we will have to fight for it.” He emphasized strategic investments in energy diversification, science, tourism, agriculture, and industry as the basis for European competitiveness and institutional sustainability.

Deputy Minister Nikolay Pavlov focused the conversation on support for Ukraine, EU enlargement based on the principle of merit, energy security, and economic and social cohesion.

Yordanka Chobanova, Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria, emphasized the importance of the European Green Deal, sustainable growth, and Bulgaria’s key role in implementing these goals.

During the event, Maciej Szymański, Poland’s ambassador to Bulgaria, was honored for the successful conclusion of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU, expressing his support for the ongoing work.

The event provided a platform for exchanging ideas, networking, and sharing a vision for the future of the EU. Ambassador Stender expressed his willingness to meet with Bulgarian students and young people to hear their views and include their voices in the development of European policy: “They will be the main builders of Europe’s future.”

Through this initiative, Pan-Europa Bulgaria has confirmed its role as an active participant in European dialogue and civic engagement. With the support of partners such as the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Diplomatic Institute, the organization continues to promote policies and initiatives aimed at a secure, competitive, and green Europe.
